My mother always made us a SPECIAL lunch on Valentines day. She would cut out sandwiches into hearts, give us heart shaped jello jigglers and heart shaped cookies. It is a tradition I have passed on to my daughter. LA has always looked forward to her Valentines Day lunch. Like most traditions they change over time. In LA's lunch she typically gets heart shaped sandwiches, strawberries cut into vertical bites (which make hearts) and "red" things such as red koolaid and an individual bag of doritos.
This year is more difficult. In Polk County they only have a half day on Valentines day, which means NO lunch at school. I am not ready to let go of my little girl so I decided to do something different. Rather than one lunch that was special, on February 1st I started adding a treat in her lunchbox each day. I got most of my ideas from Pinterest, my new addiction. Here is what I have come up with....
- You are just "Write" for me. - a new pencil and pen.
- You are a "pop" star.- popcorn
- You are my "main squeeze". - a bottle of squeezable juice
- I "love Juice". -bottle of juice
- I am "nuts" about you. - bag of peanuts.
- You are so much FUN.- a bag of funyuns chips
- Read my "lips", I'm yours. -chapstick
- I "chews" you.- a chewy granola bar.
- I'm crazy for you.- crazy straws
- Happy Valentines Day to one of my favorite "peeps,"- You guessed it peeps.
- You are the "apple" of my eye. -an apple
Most of the items I already had at home which made this economical. I wrote the words on construction paper hearts I had cut out with pretty glitter pens and added some stickers. I made sure to write, "Love, mom and dad" on each Valentine. Very easy to do.
